Gcebile Gee Ngubane (GeeGee) was born in Swaziland, her grandfather was a superb tailor and that’s where she got her love of fashion. “He is the reason I do what I do today, he introduced me to this world. By the age of 12 I knew I wanted to design and construct beautiful garments”. She moved to South Africa after high school to study fashion design in Cape Town at Elizabeth Galloway fashion design school for a year. She later transferred to Spero Villioti Elite design school in Johannesburg, where she continued to study for two years. She then spent some time off to find inspiration and her own signature style. Her brand represents who she is. She loves women to feel comfortable, sexy and to look fashion forward. “The aim is to move forward, not only in fashion but life itself”. Her collection is Africa today, modern and chic. She wanted to show us Africa in a different look. Her inspiration for the collection came from Africa’s breath-taking landscapes and the joy that African people always have, which you see from the use of bright colours. She also got her inspiration from African tribes with their use of patterns whether it’s on their bodies, on the walls of their home, African drums, paintings and headscarves as well as beads. She shows us her version of African fashion, this is modern Africa today.
